Abstract

Paralongidorus silvestris

sp. n. and Longidorus pisi Edward, Misra & Singh, 1964, collected in central regions of Senegal, are described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by its body 3.8-5.6 mm long, lip region offset by weak depression and 9-11 μm wide, an elongate cup-shaped amphidial fovea, odontostyle 70-82 μm long, neck length 264-432 μm long, pharyngeal bulb 85-105 μm long, V = 46-53, tail conical (39-58 μm, c = 84-127, c’ 1.5-2.0) and almost straight ventrally, spicules 50 μm long, nine ventromedian supplements, and three juvenile stages. It closely resembles P. flexus and P. iberis, but can be differentiated from P. flexus by having broader body, lip region and amphid shapes, and odontostyle and tail lengths; and from P. iberis in the morphology of lip region, amphid and tail shapes, and in the number of juvenile stages. Three populations of L. pisi, including two males, are compared with those previously described. This is the first record of L. pisi in Senegal.
