The main target of this paper will be to discuss the compatibility and the necessity of the death penalty in Ethiopia with respect to Human Rights. It will give particular focus on the Criminal Code of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in addressing the issue. It discusses the arguments for and against the death penalty and whether or not the practice should or should not be abolished from the Criminal Code of the country. It is evident that the death penalty is one of the most confrontational issues since the dawn of the principles of Human Rights. There are two different arguments between those who support the implementation of the death penalty and those who are against the death penalty. This paper will analyze these two different ideas based on legislation and academic literature.
