Abstract

The Mexican city of Zacatecas city was established around a natural element of the landscape: the La Plata stream. This water source became the central axis of the territory, the vertebral column of the urban center, and the key component that sustained the settlement’s main economic activity: mining. Over time, the river was polluted by the different economic activities and by the population’s unhygienic practices, which led to its rechanneling and the consequent alteration of the urban landscape.
