Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Submission.- Manuscripts should be sent to the Editor (Dr. R. Peña Santiago, Dpto. Biología Animal, Vegetal y Ecología, Universidad de Jaén, Campus "Las Lagunillas" s/n, Edificio B3, 23071- Jaén, Spain; email: rpena@ujaen.es) or the Associate Editor (Dr. D. Jiménez Guirado, Dpto. Biología Animal, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Córdoba, Campus de Rabanales, Edificio C1, 14071-Córdoba, Spain; email: ba1jigud@uco.es). Only manuscripts not previously or simultaneously offered to other journals must be submitted. Authors should send a copy of the manuscript in Word or PDF format via E-mail.

 

                Manuscripts should be written in English, typed in double line spacing with ample margins (minimum 2.5 cm) and in A4 format. Both pages and lines will be numbered consecutively. The first page will include title, author(s) and address(es); and the second one will contain the summary and key-words. Spanish "resumen" will be prepared by the Editorial Board. The text of the manuscript will begin at the top of the next page.

 

            The text should be divided into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results (Descriptions), Discussion and References. Papers dealing with the description of known or new taxa should must include the following parts: Latin name, synonymy, measurements (see below), description, illustrations (see below), diagnosis, relationships, distribution (type locality and habitat), material examined (type material), etymology and remarks. Only scientific names of the taxa will be typed in italics.

 

            Tables containing numerical data (for instance, measurements and ratios) or other information which complete the text can be included. Tables will be labelled consecutively with Roman numerals. Each table must be presented on a separate page and with its corresponding legend at the top. Scientific units will be expressed in the metric system (Système Internationale).

 

            Well prepared illustrations (ink paper drawings, black and white photographs, etc.) can join the text and be accepted. Figures will be labelled consecutively in Arabic numerals, and their legends presented on a separate page.

 

            All citations contained in the text must be presented as in the following examples: Thorne (1939) or (Thorne, 1939) when there is a single author; Thorne and Swanger (1936) or (Thorne & Swanger, 1936) when there are two authors; and Eliava et al. (1975) or (Eliava et al., 1975) when there are three or more authors. References should be listed alphabetically at the end of the text as follows:

                Charges and Reprints.- No publishing cost will be charged to the authors. A PDF file of the paper will be provided to the (first) author of the paper.
