Abstract

An updated checklist and systematic scheme of the aphelench nematodes is given. Following recent molecular advances, the former Order Aphelenchida and Suborder Aphelenchina are rejected, these nematodes falling under the
Tylenchina in the superfamily Aphelenchoidea. The Aphelenchoidoidea is also rejected in this scheme, thereby leaving all aphelenchs under one superfamily. In the checklist the 28 valid genera are arranged according to the outline systematic
scheme. In addition to species and accepted synonyms, lists are appended for species inquirendae, nomina nuda, etc. The Principle of Coordination is applied to authorities for changes in rank and there is a comprehensive bibliography. The
following new combination is proposed: Bursaphelenchus bicoloris (Devdariani, 1973) n. comb. (syn. Parasitaphelenchus bicoloris Devdariani, 1973).
