Abstract

Bursaphelenchus arthuri sp. n. isolated in China from coniferous packaging wood imported from Taiwan and South Korea is described and illustrated. The new species belongs to the fungivorus group. It is characterized by a body length of 923 (882-980) mm and 962 (827-1069) mm of males and females, respectively; robust body (a= 32 and 31, respectively); stylet 16 (14Ð18) mm long; lateral field with four lines; long postuterine branch; female tail attenuated (c= 15) with a finely rounded, only slightly ventrally bent terminus; and male with spicules 16-21 mm long and a distinct oval dorso-ventral visible terminal bursa. The new species can be differentiated from B. fungivorus, B. seani and B. thailandae by means of ITSRFLP patterns.
