Resumen

Xiphinema populations of the X. americanum group from New Zealand, previously designated as Xiphinema spec. c, proved to be conspecifi c with X. waimungui. The occurrence of bacteria associated with the genital tracts of the females of these populations and their morphological characters indicate that this species belongs to the X. americanum group. Morphological data supplementing the original description of the species are given, and males are described for the fi rst time. X. waimungui is known only from the North Island of New Zealand and the outlying island Raoul, where it has mainly been found in forests and native bush under trees.
