 Citations and references

Citations in the text of a paper with one or more authors

16.- For citations in the body of the text:

The bibliographical references of the text should be included in the following way: surname(s) of the author or authors in capital letters, followed by a comma and the year of publication in brackets. If a specific reference would like to be made, especially if it is a direct quote, after the year of publication there should be a colon and the respective page/s (p/pp), figure/s (f./fs.) or illustration/s (illn./illns.). Articles by more than three authors should be quoted within the text by the surname(s) of the first and the expression et alii in italics. In the bibliographical references at the end of the article all the authors should be quoted.

References

17.- The bibliographic references shall go after the text and the notes and only contain sources that support the research and have been consulted during preparation of the paper. Consequently, each entry in the references must also be cited in the text.

  1. The author’s surname should go first (without tabulating), in capital letters, followed by his or her first name in lower-case letters (except the initial one); when there is more than one author they should be separated by a semi-colon. Following this, the year of publication should be added, followed by a colon. If the work is not yet published, instead of the year it should read (forthcoming).
  2. Works by the same author should be listed chronologically from the earliest to the most recent. References to an author’s individual work should appear first, followed by works with other authors. When several works by the same author are listed, the author’s name should be repeated for each entry. When more than one work published in the same year by the same author is cited, lower-case letters in alphabetical order should be added after the year of publication.
  3. If the document has a DOI, this must be included as part of the reference. As far as possible, the URL of references should also be included.
  4. References can include up to seven authors, separated by commas with “and” or “&” before the last author. If the reference has 8 or more authors, include the first 6 authors, then insert three ellipses (...) and add the name of the last author.
