The purpose of this article is to describe how the study of the hydraulic urban systems can help us to know closely the History of cities in the ancient Spanish state of al-Andalus. This analysis is based on one of the Occidental suburbs (al-Janib al-Garbi) of Madinat Qurtuba (Córdoba) during the Umayyad Caliphate. The quality of the archaeological excavations in this area has permitted us to examine in detail four of these plots to search for the origin and development of the hydraulic systems. Archaeological remains have already revealed the existence of cisterns, channels, latrines, wells and similar structures. Now, we take a step forward to try to discover the implication of water in the town planning and daily life.
