The castle of Sax (Alicante): archaeological, architectural and functional analysis of a fortress in the Vinalopó valley (ca. XII/XIII – XVI c.)

We present the results of the archaeological prospec- tions and the manual digs serie made in the lower enclosure of Sax castle and its immediate environ- ment in 2011, and an approach to the fortress’s late medieval evolution, period in wich appear most of the defensive reforms associated to the advanced spur called “del Buey”, estructure in wich we practiced two of the archaeological digs.
