El motivo que hoy nos reúne aquí es la conmemoración de una inminente efemérides: el vigésimo -en realidad decimonono- aniversario de la publicación de un libro de singular trascendencia en la breve historia de la ceramología andalusí, el Ensayo de Sistematización de la cerámica árabe en Mallorca; pero sin duda, es también la ocasión de reconocer -aunque se resista- la labor de su autor, Guillermo Rosselló Bordoy, maestro de muchos de nosotros y amigo de todos. Los años finales de la década de los setenta fueron muy productivos en cuanto al estudio de la cerámica medieval en general y particularmente de la andalusí; a esa "cosecha" corresponden sendos trabajos -el conmemorado aquí y los casi simultáneos de André Bazzana (1979 y 1980) y Juán Zozaya (1980)- de cuya mano comencé a adentrarme en la arqueología de al-Andalus y que continúan siendo obligada referencia para los alumnos que hoy se acercan por vez primera a este tema en las aulas universitarias.
