Tower of Proaza, medieval manor towers, Gonzalo PeláezAbstract
We study the manor tower of Proaza (Asturias, Spain) dating it around the beginnings of the 13th century. Moreover, we call into doubt some of the chronological reasonings usually argued to date medieval manor towers. The suggested date has allowed us to re-examine some historical events traditionally associated with that building (Gonzalo Peláez ́s rise against king Alfonso the 7th), placing them in a different defensive settlement located in Vegamande, near Proaza.
