Constituyeron los llamados concejos de villay- tierra durante los siglos XI al XIII formas específicas de reclutar milicias guerreras, de conquistar territorios y de combatir a los musulmanes. Constituyeron asimismo una forma de apropiación del espacio y de creación de riqueza urbana y rural. Pero aquí no se va a tratar, por lo menos de forma directa -evidentemente todo ello está conectado-, de los concejos como formas de hacer la guerra, de colonizar espacios, de producir bienes materiales.
