Abstract

Geographic description, documental and space analysis of Ranón de la Arena territory, its frontiers are situated in the coast, beside the limit of onequarter that divides the ancient Pravia’s Alfoz in Asturias, and the mouth of the most important region ‘s river. The first signals of population go as far back as the lower paleolithic with open air habitat like hunting territory. lts later configuration by the hill fort (castro) existence, representing the landscape population continuity. The presence of roman culture is very excellent with occupancy levels inside the hill fort and diverse villae surroundings. The first high medieval population is the origin of a monastery, its defined reserved ground remain unalterable from the XII century to XIX century. It is a territory attached to the medieval ‘s most principals ways on the coast and the San Martin Castle, very important because it wasfounded over the hill fort during the Asturian Monarchy.
