Archaeological investigations carried out over the last few years in the developing area of Marroquíes Bajos (Jaén) have documented several medieval necropolis. Their study has brought out understanding on the tipologycal evolucion of tombs, as well on transformations in burying rituals. All this changes must be connected with the following factors:
- The islamization of a native community, taking place beetwen VIII and IX
- The development of the city of Jaén, resulting in the emergence in the lands nearby of a complex agricultural space, with a significative increase of muslim population coming from various country settlements in the Jaen Campiña, abandoned after the fitna in the IX
