In this paper we show the results of the archaeological excavation in nº 19-25 Santo Domingo street in Jaén, in 1997.
We show the development of the excavation, the problems with arose and the final results. We discuss the recent debate which has risen as a result of thedevelopment of archaeology as a method of systematic research of the urban planning of Jaén. As a result of our research, there has been a profound change in the theories concerning the configuration, structuring and evolution of Aurgi, overshadowing the hypothesis formed in the 1970’s.
