Taking as basis the analysis of the building phases of the churches of San Miguel de Escalada (León) and San Cebrián de Mazote (Valladolid) by means of the archaeology of architecture and the petrographic featuring of the materials employed for them, the exploitation areas and quarries where its stone material was extracted have been located by undertaking the geological analysis. The geological survey carried out to catalogue the historical quarries contributes with unprecedented information for a better assessment of these Early Medieval buildings and with a better understanding of their construction system and planning work.
