POLITICAL FOUNDATIONS OF THE MEXICAN ELECTORAL SYSTEM

Abstract

The Mexican electoral system as well as the political, is justified in its historical experience, from the movement of independence until its institutional stability gained in the first half of the twentieth century. The design of its institutions has been the result of the learning of the Spanish institutions that organized in colonial Mexico, the influence of the French Republic, the classic republicanism, federalism, constitutionalism and the system of division of powers of the United States of America, passing by the revolutionary movement, the creation of institutions weighted by the political party in power, the opening to the political forces opposed to the regime of government, the introduction of electoral institutions citizens with autonomy. Since several decades, the democratic development of Mexico has been underpinned by the development, strengthening and enrichment of its electoral system.
