The monograph La Unión Europea and the regulation of virtual Worlds by Dr. Jonatán Cruz Ángeles, Associate Professor of International Public Law and International Relations at the University of Jaén, is an excellent and essential work that immerses us in the complexities and international legal challenges of digital worlds in constant transformation, while shedding light on these issues. In this sense, it is undeniable that digital technologies and worlds are transforming human interaction with the digital and analogue worlds (Introduction, pp. 17-25). Thus, these innovations bring immersive experiences and practical applications to our fingertips in areas as diverse as training, education and even medicine. Although, as the author points out, this new scenario offers us unlimited potential, it is also raising certain questions such as privacy, security, fair competition and social impact, while at the same time opening the way to risks and threats inherent to the digital and global era. The book highlights the urgent need for effective regulation of the Metaverse, which, given its complexity, still looms far over the horizon, while the risks emerge immediately and without delay.
