- EDITORIAL ENTITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Revista de Estudios Jurídicos of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law of the University of Jaén is an annual, open-access digital publication.
Its purpose is to address current or historical problems or comparative law issues within the legal universe from different scientific fields of legal science, aiming to be an instrument that the Faculty and its Faculty Board wish to place at the service of the scientific community of jurists, both national and European or from other countries on other continents.
The director is elected by the Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, as are the different Councils that make up the Editorial Team.
The publication is edited by the University of Jaén.
The journal does not charge for the submission or publication of articles; nor does it charge for the editorial processing of articles for open access publication (APC).
2. THEMATIC COVERAGE AND TARGET AUDIENCE
It covers all thematic fields of Law, both private and public, as well as those of a historical or philosophical nature, from both a national and international perspective.
The target audience is mainly jurists, law operators and legal scholars, aiming to be a tool for the scientific and professional community, both nationally and internationally.
As an instrument at the service of the scientific community, the aim is to achieve a publication of quality and prestige (see Good Practice Guidelines below), with the following being essential points:
- double anonymous review, one carried out by an internal evaluator and the other by an external evaluator, mostly members of the Editorial Board
- regularity in editing
- transparency in the article selection process
- the requirement of originality of the articles (that they have not been published in another journal)
- openness to the participation of professors from outside the University of Jaén, with no more than 80% of the articles published being from researchers/authors outside the publishing entity
- the structure of the Editorial and Advisory Board.
- EDITORIAL POLICY AND MANAGEMENT
The editorial structure of the journal is that of a Management Team, consisting of a Director (an optional Deputy Director) and a Secretary, who will carry out all the ordinary management, being advised on academic management (admission, focus, editorial decisions...) by an Editorial Board made up of professors, research doctors from other Spanish and foreign universities from the Faculty of different scientific fields.
In addition, they are supported by the so-called Internal Editorial Advisory Board, an advisory and collaborative body composed of members of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, seeking to cover all the disciplines developed therein, from among the University Professors or Full Professors, and an External Advisory Board made up of eminent representatives of the legal and social sciences from national and foreign research centers.
3.1 Peer-review process
Each internal and external evaluator will be sent an article submitted for publication within the evaluator's academic specialty in order to indicate whether or not its publication is relevant.
The article will be sent to the internal and external evaluators anonymously, without the name or references of its author.
As indicated in article 11, section 5, the member of the Editorial Board, whether internal or external, who has been designated by the Editorial Board must evaluate the papers sent to them because they are within their field of specialization.
For each specific case, the identity of the selected member of the Editorial Board, whether internal or external, will remain secret and will only be known by the Editorial Board, which will not prevent the list of internal or external evaluators of the REJ from appearing explicitly in each publication of the journal.
All evaluators will be provided with a technical-scientific report template, together with the anonymous work.
Upon completion of their report, they will be issued with the corresponding certificate accrediting their status as an evaluator.
3.2 Deadlines for submission, review and acceptance of papers:
- A) Submission of papers: JAN 1 - SEPT 1
- B) Review of papers: Immediately upon receipt of the original work, submitting it to the indicated double-blind peer-review process.
- C) Notification of acceptance of the paper: 2 months after receipt of the article
3.3. Note from the Editorial Team
The Editorial Team of the REJ does not necessarily identify itself with the contents and opinions of the authors who collaborate with this journal.
3.4 Good Practice Guidelines
A: Publication and authorship
All submitted papers are subject to a strict peer-review process, by at least two national or international reviewers, experts in the specific area of the contribution.
The factors that will be taken into account in the review are: relevance, soundness, significance, originality, readability and language proficiency.
The possible decisions will be: acceptance, acceptance with revisions or rejection.
If the authors are asked to revise and resubmit the paper, there is no guarantee that the revised submission will be accepted.
Rejected articles will not be subject to further review.
B: Authors’ responsibilities
Authors must certify that their manuscripts are their own and are not plagiarized.
Authors agree to participate in the peer-review process.
Authors are obliged to incorporate rectifications or corrections of errors.
The work must contribute significantly to the research.
Authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscript.
Authors must notify the editors of any conflict of interest.
C: Reviewers’ responsibilities
Reviewers must maintain confidentiality about all information contained in the papers and treat them as privileged information.
Reviews must be carried out objectively, refraining from personal criticism of the author.
Reviewers must express their points of view clearly and with sufficient arguments.
Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors.
Reviewers should also draw the attention of the Director or Secretary of the Journal to any substantial similarity or coincidence between the manuscript submitted for consideration and any other published article of which they have personal knowledge.
D: Editors’ responsibilities
The editors have full responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article.
The editors are responsible for the content and overall quality of the publication.
The editors must ensure the quality of the work and the integrity of the academic process.
The editors must publish errata pages or make corrections when necessary.
The editors must base their decisions on the papers solely on the importance, originality, clarity and relevance to the scope of the publication.
Editors should not reverse their decisions or revoke those made by previous editors without a serious and well-founded reason.
The editors must preserve the anonymity of the reviewers.
The editors must ensure that all research material published complies with internationally accepted ethical guidelines.
Editors must act if they suspect misconduct, regarding whether or not a paper is published, and must make all reasonable attempts to persist in obtaining a solution to the problem.
Editors should not reject papers based on mere suspicion; they should have evidence of misconduct.
3.5 Journal Policies
- A) Open Access
Unless otherwise indicated, all content in the electronic edition of the Electronic Journal of Research and Teaching is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY) license.
You can consult the information version and the legal text of the license here.
The indication of the license for use and distribution, CC-BY, must be expressly stated when necessary.
- B) Anti-plagiarism: originality, plagiarism and acknowledgement of sources
Manuscripts submitted to the REJ must guarantee that they are an original, unpublished work and that their publication is not being considered elsewhere.
By originality, we mean that the work has been produced by the authors themselves.
Plagiarism is the unethical act of using the ideas, processes, results or previous words of others without explicitly acknowledging the original authors and sources.
Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a violation of journalistic ethics, and some cases of self-plagiarism may also be considered a form of scientific misconduct.
Therefore, all submitted manuscripts will be reviewed using Turnitin or Trinka IA, advanced plagiarism and artificial intelligence detection software, to prevent the journal from publishing plagiarized or unoriginal content.
If the plagiarism and AI detection program shows a high similarity index, the manuscript will be automatically rejected by the management team and will not be considered for publication in the journal.
However, if the similarity index is considerably low, it may be necessary to improve the citation.
After making the necessary corrections, the manuscript could be resubmitted.
- C) Preservation
All journals published by the University of Jaén are housed in the institutional repository.
The Publications Service of the University of Jaén publishes, sponsors this journal and preserves its content and accessibility.
In addition, PKP has developed the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to digitally preserve OJS journals such as the REJ.
The LOCKSS program offers decentralized and distributed preservation, continuous and ongoing access, and preserves the original authentic version of the content.
- D) Gender Equality
The REJ aligns itself with gender and non-sexist initiatives that seek gender equality in society.
To fulfil this commitment, the journal has implemented strategies such as editorial participation, inclusive language, and a focus on sex and gender in research studies.
We strongly encourage authors to use gender-neutral terms, instead of masculine ones, to refer to classes or groups of people and, in case of unknown gender, to use the pronoun "they" instead of gender-specific pronouns.
Authors must be explicit if the research specifically addresses a gender or if there are gender differences, and avoid perpetuating stereotypes.
Authors can find a set of guidelines for non-sexist and gender-equal language in the Gender-Sensitive Communication Toolkit.
- E) Interoperability protocols
The OJS platform uses the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) standard that allows other websites and information services to collect the metadata of the published content according to the Dublin Core criteria.
- F) Privacy Statement
All names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes indicated and will not be provided to third parties or used for other purposes.
