«Beautiful and chosen songs»: A study of a collection of popular Mexican songbooks

This paper analyzes the lyrical features of eight songbooks by Antonio Vanegas Arroyo's printing press, in order to provide a general picture of the song booklets, the reason for their success and the characteristics their audience was looking for. These goals will be addressed not only from the perspective of their context of production, but also by paying attention to theirformat, the themes they deal with, and their management audience.
