Proverbs as part of the oral tradition are relatively old statements that provide insight into aspects of the culture and popular wisdom of any society. These paremiological materials have great ethno-linguistic value insofar as they show the relationship between language and culture. In this article, we analyze the theme of historical and popular characters mentioned in Ḥassani proverbs and proverbial phrases in order to contribute to a better understanding of the Ḥassani dialect and culture.
