In this article, drawing on ten years of fieldwork conducted in the province of Soria, I reflect on the role of written texts in the processes of remembering local musical traditions. Throughout my encounters with collaborators, one element has gained particular prominence: the songbook notebooks containing lyrics. This material object allows for a theoretical dialogue with concepts such as tradition, orality, and the intergenerational transmission of cultural knowledge. It demonstrates how writing not only documents orality but also nourishes it, serving as a mnemonic device that shapes its transmission and transformation.
