This paper analyses the level of information literacy of a group of students taking the course “Professional and Academic English” of the Degree in English Studies at the University of Valladolid. In this case study, a self-made questionnaire was used to gather information about the students’ practices and perceptions regarding the way in which they search, assess and use information for academic purposes, paying special attention to the type of sources which they consult and how they integrate them into their tasks and essays. The results show that the participants have not yet acquired the informational competences required in Higher Education and, therefore, they should be trained so that they can develop such competences within a broader process of academic literacy.
