This article approaches the skills and training required by museum educators, with the objective of identifying their appropriate profile in order to indicate which elements facilitate the proper development of their professional work. A qualitative methodology has been used (Stake, 2010) based on in-depth interviews with education professionals from the main museums and contemporary art centres in Spain and Portugal. The work allows for narrowing down the definition of the museum educator profile, from the perspective of the skills indicated (creativity, culture, communication and social skills) and the required training (pedagogy, art history, artistic training and interaction with the public).
