This study addresses the lack of interest in reading in order to determine the factors that influence it. The methodology was based on a quantitative approach with a non-experimental and descriptive design; a census sampling was carried out and the sample consisted of 280 students. The instrument to collect data was a survey. Results show that the degree of interest in reading among students is medium; likewise, the most influential factor in reading stimulation is the family and the students reading preferences are related to adventure texts, physical books and aesthetics. It is concluded that the factors that influence disinterest in reading are environmental and pedagogical, due to the important role played by the context and educational agents.
