This essay analyzes the characteristics that make the graphic documentary sources incorporated in the designs of Spanish dam and reservoir projects one of the foundational pillars in the study of the fluvial landscapes of our immediate past. The analysis of maps, climo-diagrams, hydrographs, core data and photographic images, etc, that are usually included in the technical reports are an objective representation of a time-changing geographic reality. Besides, a diachronic contrast allows us to establish a sequence of events —natural and anthropogenic— in the slopes and valley floor settings, which in most cases surprisingly reveals the intensity of the transformations of the environment in such a short period of time.Downloads
