Inadecuaciones del sistema de saneamiento convencional y los obstáculos que enfrentan las alternativas tecnológicas

Este artículo propone una aproximación crítica al sistema de saneamiento que actualmente se considera convencional. Se analizan sus características distintivas y las condiciones históricas y culturales presentes en el momento de su surgimiento y que lo definen hasta el día de hoy, así como se destacan signos de inadecuación al contexto actual. Se sugiere que dicho sistema presenta una dependencia de trayectoria, determinada por decisiones tomadas en períodos anteriores, lo que constituye un aprisionamiento tecnológico, en el que el sistema no es cuestionado en sus criterios básicos y las posibles alternativas técnicas se ven desacreditadas. En concreto, el uso intensivo del agua, la dependencia de este recurso y la centralización de las infraestructuras, son cuestiones que no se problematizan precisamente por el predominio de tal sistema convencional.
