The present dossier explores the role of water in various cultures and its symbolic, social, and political meanings. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the authors address how water has been represented and understood in different historical and geographical contexts. Water is not only seen as a natural resource but also as a sacred element laden with meanings, influencing community practices and land management. The dossier highlights the need to merge traditional and modern views of water in order to address the current challenges related to its management, thus ensuring that it is sustainable and equitable in a world where its access and use are increasingly shaped by global economic dynamics and power structures.
