L'acqua è una risorsa essenziale per la vita umana ed è anche un importante fattore geopolitico, in particolare nell'attuale situazione globale di incipiente scarsità. A tale proposito, vale la pena chiedere fino a che punto i bacini fluviali transfrontalieri possono essere considerati una fonte di cooperazione tra Stati o una causa di conflitti internazionali. Questo problema è stato ampiamente discusso nella letteratura accademica, dalle ipotesi della "guerra dell'acqua" alle ipotesi della "pace dell'acqua". Questo studio adotta il quadro idroememonico per analizzare le asimmetrie di potere nell'assegnazione delle risorse idriche tra gli Stati costieri. Analizza il case study dell'idrocondotto della Cina, in particolare nella regione del bacino del Mekong, che presenta caratteristiche che facilitano lo studio dell'idroememonia nelle relazioni internazionali contemporanee
