Abstract

This article is a review of the most relevant contributions, which have been made in the field of anthropological research of intellectual disability. In this article is explained the different
theoretical frameworks applied to the sociocultural study of intellectual disability as well as methodological procedures developed. In recent years, the theoretical reflection about
the concepts of identity, person and humanity has been stimulated by the ethnography of intellectual disability and the ethnographic texts have influenced in social sciences generating
new research topics in intellectual disability.
