Ethnographic sexual violences

In recent years, the confluence of feminist and de(s)colonial criticism and the development of the #MeToo movement in anthropology have revealed the frequency which sexual and gender violence occurs during ethnographic practice. Putting the experiences and voices of women anthropologists at the center, this contribution reflects on how silences – of the academy, of the discipline and of the researchers themselves– are constructed and their meanings. From this perspective, silence is revealed as a central aspect that needs to be rethought and interpreted to depatriarchalize and decolonize anthropology.
