Abstract

The neoliberal modernization that consolidates in Chile during the post-dictatorship is characterized by tensions and contradictions, that traverse the link between market logic and
symbolic authoritarianism (defined by moral conservatism). So while the sex as commodity is in the public eye, and sexual diversity and gender equality are ‘tolerated’, the demands for autonomy over the body and the demands for women’s citizenship can not be arise in the same space, or be answered by the State, under the guise of this being a subject proper of the private scope. Is interesting to address the deployment of a conservative discourse in a staging
apparently liberal, in the early seasons of Morandé con Compañía, a televisión show with high ratings, released in 2001 by a private television network and wich slogan is “The primetime show of the common people.”
