Abstract

The present study focuses on the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy in and its immediate consequences from the point of view of the scapegoat mechanism theory. The main sources for this purpose will be the memoir published by former District Attorney of New Orleans, Jim Garrison, as well as the book Rush to Judgement by Mark Lane, a lawyer who applied to represent Oswald before the Warren Commission. The conspiracy theories by Garrison and Lane will be compared to the scapegoat theory by René Girard, using two out of his many books (i.e. The Scapegoat and Quand ces choses commenceront...) as a reference. The studies on crowds and power by Elías Canetti will be also used.
