Abstract

Jean Cocteau’s multidisciplinary work is characterized by the strong influence of the classical Greco-Roman tradition. From his illustrations to his audio- visual creations, Cocteau showed how the Classical World provided him an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The present study is intended to show an analysis of Cocteau’s work inspired by Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, which was modified by the French author in order to create some dramatic effects to move the audience of the first half of the 20th Century.
