Abstract

In this paper I seek to explore and account for changes that have developed between o’otham O’otham in Sonora, México; which have significantly impacted their social organization and
their relationship to power and politics. These are the result of broader changes that relate to both the regional and national history. Thus, the colonization of what is now known as the State of Sonora, Mexico’s independence, revolution and the great changes evidenced in policies aimed at evangelizing the indigenous population have generated various strategies by the tohono o’otham in about the concept of power, politics and institutions that have been present from the group
