Abstract

The violence of women is very common in universal stories, myths and legends. One of the common myths mostly located in Mexico is the Llorona. This legend has been reinterpreted in film in various ways, versions serving and tastes of every kind historiographical and popular opinion. In this paper, we discuss three film versions of La Llorona, La Llorona (Peón, 1933),
La Llorona (Cardona, 1960) y La maldición de la Llorona (Becerra, 1963) placing them both in the anthropological, social and historical, to see the various ways to show female violence
and condemnation of women to the fact of the murder of their children
