The winding roads of racism: environmental racism in Argentina

Abstract

This paper refers to the evolution of racist doctrines and their impact on the social sciences.
The author analyzes the capacity of racist doctrines and policies to adapt to new contexts. In this sense, it is understood that environmental racism is a continuation and transformation of racism that cannot be dissociated from the historical, social and political context. The author analyzes the origins of environmental racism in United States. Finally the article reflects on a particular case of environmental racism in Argentina referred to the serious environmental degradation suffered by peoples of the Chaco. To conclude the article discussion on active stance to be taken by anthropologists and social scientists regarding public policies based on
environmental racism that are applied to the weaker and minority communities of the national society.
