Abstract

Based on the diagnosis of the current status of Anthropology in Spain and the detailed account of an organizational experience that has taken place during the last decade (the itinerary of the CEGA and CPA), we present in this article the main challenge that our discipline faces in order to reach its final consolidation: to enhance its presence in the professional field and also in the society. After a defense of the “public interest” of anthropology and of its capacity to
transform social reality, we argue that professional associations are urgently needed in order to ensure the professionalization of the discipline; also, they would facilitate its visibility and reception among the social scene. We firmly believe that only in this way will Anthropology reach the consolidation that other social sciences had already achieved in this country.
