Abstract

This text examines the role of anthropologists in designing an anthropology of social intervention, applicable in situations linked to urban and social questions. The goal is to think about the role anthropologists play, and can improve on still more, in various spheres of social administration; about how to transfer these capacities onto situations that demand seeking solutions, that imply re-evaluating stagnant situations in those spaces. I will focus on situations connected to questions of managing diversity and people in a situation of social exclusion, and specifically on the Romanian Gypsy population. Some of the questions that guide this examination are: What alternatives can anthropologists offer in these situations? How might one encourage our professional ability to be in demand and valued? How might
one transmit anthropological findings about social questions from outside the academic sphere to both academia and a non-university public that is not specialized in anthropology?
