Abstract

This article presents the dynamics of marketing and consumption appears in street markets in a peripheral area: the District of Las Juntas y Las Juntitas (Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara, Mexico). It analyzes the market as a unique and privileged place for social interaction from a poor population living and working in a marginal area. It also aims to demonstrate the connection is established in the distribution and consumption of goods between the formal and informal sectors in the city, and how peripheral markets represent the last link in a commercial circuit that integrates all types of traders, goods and money transit. Finally, it is argued that
consumption among the popular sectors relates to the ability of this sector to have access to certain products and not others, in a global production flowing to the peripheral contexts
