Abstract

The body, as a field of perception, action, and practice, has an important place in contemporary art; likewise, it is one of the focuses of social anthropology. The works carried out in both disciplines, art and anthropology, have emphasized the symbolic aspect of the body, its cultural construction in terms of power dynamics, and its character as a space of ideological production. After some references to the role assigned to the sexed body in modern society and a few brief notes about international contemporary art production, this article proposes an analysis of the representations and actions of the female and male body in Andalusian contemporary art from the anthropology. The study is conducted by selecting some cases.
