Abstract

The managment of a specific social policy (Renta Mínima de Inserción or “remi”: Minimum income) in Madrid (Spain) has become a privileged space to analyze the tendency to
indoctrinate and discipline linked to the social intervention services. We would like to discuss about the ambiguous definition of social exclusion, its effects in the way this policy
is developed and applied, and also the corporal (and oral) consequences of the individualized and technified application of this policy (Basic Income Guarantee, similar to the American TANF or Temporary Aid to Needy Families). We want to emphasize the transactions and negotiations that take place in several educative spaces linked to this the application of policy to the Spanish gipsy population. Like this we discuss the way the professionals of the social intervention area apply positive action policies are applied and reflect about some of the embodied reactions they produce in their beneficiaries.
