Abstract

The scarcely known long wave cycles theories point out at the crest and decline of technoeconomical systems as a cyclical engine in which the historical process of substitution of old
and new technologies is to be explained by an operational model of subsequent revolutions. Following Russian scientist Nicolai Kondratieff’s theories, our world, staged in an unreal
economy based in speculation instead of production, is in the door of the forth cycle’s winter. With the spectacular developments in information and communication technologies within amidst a global media society, a re-examination of these theories through an actualizing analysis becomes necessary. Departing from a multidisplinary perspective, using data and research instruments from mathematics, economy, history or anthropology, this article analyses the convenience of propositions on the existence and regularity of cycles within
cultural context.
