Abstract

An adoptive family is a “New Form of Family” in opposition to “Traditional Families”. Because of that we ask ourselves what kind of family notion arises from these families that spontaneously give origin to a new form of family, socialy distinguished from “natural” or “traditional” patterns, not seeking, as in infertility cases, the reconstruction of a traditional family model. The predominant motivation for
adoption, taking account for a vast majority of cases, is that of infertility. Those disabled to form a traditional family, made up from parents and their biological ‘offspring’, find in adoption an alternative pathway. But not all cases have this family scenary as couples exist which in spite of having their own biological children take up adoption with identical determination as those who fulfill themselves through
this alternative. So, if the scenary for this families is not that of infertility, which one is it? What kind of motivations do these families hide? Supposing something in common between these families that take up adoption for other motives rather than infertility may exist, this article will try to analize why are they willing to adopt or what makes them sensible to adoption and what are their features, what kind of family have they constituted.
