Abstract

The following text is the result of a brief study about certain dynamics of urban tourism, involving tour guides and visiting foreigners in the city of Santiago and Chile’s Region
V. Participant Observation was applied as the principal technique in this study. This study was realized for the course “Methods for Qualitative Investigation as part of the Master of
Anthropology and Development program at the University of Chile. The study’s execution is based on the exchange and direct participation between a professional tour guide, six North American tourists (two Canadians and four Americans), and an English translator, who is also the researcher for this investigation. In this context, the study was intended to investigate the perceptions and beliefs of the people involved in the urban tourism industry of the city.
