Abstract

This study analyzes the role of Mutual Help Groups and consumer organizations related to health care, and their situation in the sanitary and social system of Spain, as well as the role of Mutual Help Groups in improvement of patients
and caregivers quality of life. Research techniques used were focus groups and semi-structured interviews and were implemented in addictions, chronic diseases and relatives of patients field; four focus groups and seven semistructured
interviews were made. Results of this study showed the tendency to the integration of organizations network in social and sanitary system with the objective to design effective public politics. On the other hand, Mutual Help Groups are an essential part of emotional and social rehabilitation of patient and caregivers, creating a symbolic space to change the image of their disease in social and professional area.
