Abstract

The purpose of this article is to contribute for the debate on the absence of women in occupations sociologically characterized by strong masculinization. We aim to provide some data that ponders on the reasons which make individualsgo beyond gender stereotypes and enter in professional domains stroked by the hegemonic presence of the other. We defined as a starting point the influence
of primary socialization on individual choices concerning educational and professional strategies, giving special attention to the way these individuals construct its gender identity in labour context, based not only on their proper
expectations but also on the expectations of their colleagues. This analysis is founded on data collected during 2004 next to researchers and teachers on electrotechnics and computer science domains.
