Abstract

The digital revolution and new information technologies have propelled profound changes in our societies. The way we live together daily, our entertainment habits, how we study, or conduct business are very different from just a couple of decades ago. Within the social fabric of this revolution lies our relationship with money, where the rules of the game have changed both collectively and individually. Today, there are new players such as fintech, digital money, or the world of cryptocurrencies competing to gain ground in the ecosystem of personal, group, and regional finances. In this article, I propose five ethnographic fields inspired by the theoretical-methodological tradition of anthropology that can bring us closer to the phenomenon of money in contemporary times from a socio-cultural perspective.
