Abstract

The cat's meow syndrome is a rare hereditary disease characterized by the fact that the affected child, infant baby, has a cry similar to the meow of a cat (cry of a cat = cri du chat). The cat meow syndrome is caused by a specific alteration of the genetic material: the loss (deletion) of a part of the filiform structures of the cell nucleus that carry the genetic material (one of the arms of one of the chromosomes: the short arm of chromosome 5).

The cat meow can be characterized by physical and psychomotor alterations since they slow down. They usually have an extremely low weight after childbirth. Early physical and mental support is decisive for these children. The voice of children with cat meow syndrome tends to become more differentiated as they grow older and the development of language is often considerably delayed.
